Hauer joins the growing numbers of people who left the digital bank in recent months, following the departures of CPO Georgina Smallwood, HR manager Diana Styles, CFO Richard Groeneveld.
The N26 Germany boss is switching to another fintech. As of November 1, he will start as CFO and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Hawk AI, the Munich start-up announced.
This comes before an expected investment where, according to Sky News, the German digital bank looks set to receive a “substantial sum of money” from early Spotify investor Dragoneer Investment Group.
Hauer has been with N26 since 2018 and started out as General Manager for Austria. After several positions as Global Head of CRM and Product Marketing, for example, he was appointed General Manager DACH & Northern Europe in 2019.

Prior to that, he was General Manager at Uber and spent almost six years as a consultant at BCG focusing on technology and digitization.
In a LinkedIn post, Hauer said “As in my previous role at N26, I’m looking forward to joining a disruptor at the beginning of a truly exciting journey. Today, N26 is recognized as a true innovator that has changed the face of banking — and I’m excited to take Hawk AI on that same journey”
“We would like to thank Georg Hauer for his extraordinary achievements after almost four very successful years at N26 and wish him all the best for the start of his new professional career,” N26 said when asked by FINANCE.
The search for a successor “is already advanced”, according to N26. The management team currently consists of twelve people. CEO is co-founder Valentin Stalf, and the former ProSiebenSat.1 CFO Jan Kemper has been CFO at Neobank since July .
